The Helford – Original Hand-Painted Gig Oar

Inspired by the quiet magic of Cornwall's Helford River, The Helford oar is a one-of-a-kind original artwork painted onto a traditional wooden Cornish gig rowing oar.

Created in rich greens, and warm copper tones, the colours capture the ever-changing reflections of the Helford river- where ancient oak woodlands meet sheltered creeks. 

This piece was also inspired by the Helford Ladies Gig Rowing team and their World Championship success this year. It celebrates not only the beauty of the river itself, but the community, determination and connection to the sea that make Helford so special.

Each brushstroke is painted by hand in Cornwall before being sealed with multiple coats of marine-grade varnish, creating a durable finish that protects the artwork while enhancing the depth and vibrancy of the colours.

Measuring approximately 3.6 metres in length, this is a true statement piece- equally at home in a coastal house, beach retreat, luxury hospitality space or rowing club.

Hanging & Delivery

The Helford oar is ready to become a striking focal point in your home. If you'd like advice on displaying your oar, I'm always happy to help. We also work with a local joiner who can create bespoke wall mounts if required. We can also offer a hanging service with leather straps. 

Because of its size, shipping is arranged individually after purchase to ensure your artwork arrives safely. Local delivery may be available, and larger works are transported using specialist art couriers. Shipping is not included in the price.
