Hi! I'm Sophie. I am an artist living in beautiful Cornwall. Painting has always been my happiest pass-time. I have been painting since I was a little girl. I remember coming down on holiday to Cornwall always armed with a watercolour set and pad. Even in those early days I felt a desire to capture the ocean and beaches on paper and canvas.
Before dedicating more time to my art, I was a full-time veterinary surgeon. I graduated as a vet from Nottingham University in 2013. During maternity leave with my little boy, I started devoting more time to my art practice again and started to grow the business side. I now feel very lucky to spend half my week as a vet, and the rest of my week creating artwork in my home studio. I feel very lucky to balance two careers that I feel really passionate about.
My painting process is very fluid. I usually find they are an outpouring of my emotions at that time. I feel very passionate about "blue health" and believe there is so much to be gained from powerful, daily connections to the sea. I love sea swimming and surfing- and a lot of my paintings are inspired by these powerful "ocean moments". My paintings always come from a place of deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the ocean and landscape around us. (Particularly here in Cornwall!)
I live in an old farmhouse tucked away in the Cornish countryside with my husband, little boy, two lively spaniels and a flock of chickens! We are in the process of renovating our house, and building a new studio space. I look forward to sharing more of this journey with you! Follow me on instagram for more regular updates.
